Billing and collections for medical practices can be complex.
For specialized fields like wound care and hyperbaric medicine, the challenges are even greater. From intricate coding requirements to managing recurring treatments and ensuring compliance with regulations, effective billing is essential to maintaining a healthy revenue cycle. For many practices, these complexities can lead to lost revenue and administrative strain without the right expertise.
At AMS Solutions, we focus on simplifying and optimizing the billing process for wound care and hyperbaric medicine practices. With years of experience and a dedicated team of billing specialists, we provide the expertise needed to navigate the unique demands of these specialties. Our goal is to ensure you receive the full reimbursement you deserve while freeing your team to concentrate on patient care.
Wound care and hyperbaric medicine aren’t just highly specialized—they’re also among the most complex fields in medical billing. The treatments provided in these areas often involve advanced procedures, recurring visits, and rigorous documentation requirements, making precise billing an absolute necessity.
Wound care treatments like surgical debridement, skin grafts, and pressure ulcer management require meticulous coding to ensure accurate reimbursement. Similarly, hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves specific codes that reflect the treatment’s equipment, duration, and medical necessity. Without a billing partner with expertise in these codes, practices risk underbilling or triggering denials.
Patients undergoing wound care or hyperbaric therapy typically require multiple visits over extended periods. Managing billing for ongoing treatments can be a logistical challenge, especially when insurance companies demand detailed records and updates at every step. Having a specialized billing partner ensures these recurring services are billed properly and consistently.
The healthcare industry is known for its constant regulatory updates, and wound care and hyperbaric medicine are no exception. Keeping up with coding changes, compliance rules, and insurance requirements can overwhelm even the most organized teams.
With AMS Solutions, you’ll benefit from our ongoing training and up-to-date knowledge, reducing your risk of non-compliance and claim rejections.

Quick answer
AMS Solutions bills HBOT for independent, physician-led hyperbaric and wound clinics that bill insurance.
CPT 99183: physician attendance and supervision of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, per session.
HCPCS G0277: hyperbaric oxygen under pressure, full body chamber, per 30-minute interval.
The Medicare Claims Processing Manual, Chapter 32, §30 states that G0277 “is not available for use other than in a hospital outpatient department.” The hospital bills chamber time with G0277; the physician bills 99183. An independent office or freestanding clinic billing Medicare reports 99183 only.
Under NCD 20.29, Medicare pays for HBO therapy only when given in a chamber (including the one-man unit) for these conditions:
For diabetic wounds, the patient must have type I or type II diabetes with a lower extremity wound due to diabetes, a wound classified as Wagner grade III or higher, and a failed adequate course of standard wound therapy, meaning “no measurable signs of healing for at least 30 consecutive days.” HBO must be used in addition to standard wound care, wounds must be evaluated at least every 30 days, and treatment stops being covered after any 30-day period without measurable healing.
All other indications are non-covered, including cutaneous, decubitus, and stasis ulcers. Topical oxygen is not HBO therapy under the NCD; its coverage for chronic wounds is left to the local MAC.
99183 describes physician attendance and supervision of each session. For CY2026, CMS permanently allows direct supervision through real-time audio and video (not audio-only) for services without a 010 or 090 global indicator (42 CFR 410.32(b)(3)(ii)). CMS has not said this satisfies the “attendance” in 99183, so confirm with your MAC first. Some Medicaid programs are stricter: Texas Medicaid requires prior authorization for 99183 and G0277 and constant physician attendance during compression and decompression.
AMS Solutions, Inc. was physician-founded in 1992 and works under a signed BAA for covered services. AAPC-certified coders work inside your existing EHR. We support practices in all 50 states across 28+ specialties, with billing and credentialing under one roof. Request a free billing analysis and get written findings within 5 business days.
Does Medicare cover HBOT for pressure ulcers or venous stasis ulcers?
No. NCD 20.29 lists cutaneous, decubitus, and stasis ulcers among the conditions Medicare will not pay HBO therapy for.
Who bills CPT 99183 and who bills G0277?
The physician bills 99183 for attendance and supervision of each session. CMS limits G0277 (per 30-minute chamber interval) to hospital outpatient departments, so the hospital bills it.
